"Rien d'autre" is a composition for electric guitar, flute/piccolo, and electronics, incorporating both pre-recorded and live elements. Divided into three parts, each section embodies a distinct character deeply intertwined with a specific haiku. Implicitly referenced within the composition are three haikus: "the long night" by Gochiku, "thousand small white fishes" by Konishi Raizan, and "there's nothing more" by Chiyo-ni. These haikus share a common theme of water, albeit expressed in varied ways. Initially, water is depicted as a flowing element, gradually evolving into stirring, boiling currents, before eventually settling into a crystalline state. These poems serve not only to structure the composition but also to inspire various sonic elements, seamlessly interwoven within both the electronic and instrumental components.
